Curtains chosen in the most beautiful of curtain fabrics (in your eyes), exactly adapted to the dimensions of your windows, it is possible. To tell the truth, at Imperialrooms.co.uk, it is even our speciality: to make tailor-made curtains in a sewing workshop (in France) on a case-by-case basis, according to the requests of our customers and the style of their interior. We even advise you if necessary, by phone, email, or video, with the visit of a sales agent specializing in decoration or on the pages of this blog. To order your made-to-measure curtains online, visit our shop in the curtains category. But first, let’s talk curtains.
Why order curtains?
The choice of curtains often appears, above all, to be functional. The goal? Create privacy indoors while enjoying the brightness of the outdoors. We regulate the brightness, and we sift gently. Should we, therefore, resolve to buy curtains without style, bland, non-existent, or even worse, doily-style curtains from another era? Certainly not. We proclaim it loud and clear: long live contemporary curtains, which have style and flavour! We choose them for the service provided and above all because they are beautiful and actively participate in our interior decoration.
Made-to-measure begins with the choice of fabric for the curtains.
At Imperial Rooms, tailor-made means tailoring according to the measurements of your interior and choosing a particular fabric that best suits your tastes, personality, and criteria. We put at your disposal on our site hundreds of fabrics selected from publishers (from accessible fabrics to big brand fabrics). It’s up to you to flush out your little darling, the one we will cut according to your measurements to create personalized sheer curtains.
The different curtain fabrics for your custom curtains
So let’s take stock of the sheer fabric offer to help you choose the right one, i.e. the one that is made for you (for your home).
Tergal
This synthetic fabric is a great classic of sheer fabric. We sell two Tergal with slightly different material aspects: one is smooth and almost silky, the other more textured and warm.
Tergal Mussola
Tergal Mussola, white, natural or ivory, is the most basic, with its smooth and homogeneous appearance. Its transparency acts like a sheet of tracing paper. Choose if you are looking for the greatest sobriety for your sheer curtains.
Tergal Vendôme (Thevenon brand)
Our Vendôme terylene, available in white, ivory, and grey, has the merit of presenting a non-homogeneous material, like woolly. If it is poorly lit or wrinkled, the terylene is translucent, of a blurred white (if we consider the best-selling colour white), like milky. In contrast, if it is in whole light, it wins in transparency and seems nicely illuminated from the inside. It is a simple and effective sheer fabric, with an exciting material effect and a little richer than Tergal Mussola.
The stamen webs
We like stamen curtains more than synthetic terylene because with them we gain in naturalness in the material composition! You are surely familiar with the term cheesecloth known in the culinary world: a fine and natural fabric with a sparse weft used to filter liquid preparations, jams, cream, butter… Yum! We have three qualities of cheesecloth sheers to offer you: butter cloth, cheesecloth from Thévenon and Puro Lino cheesecloth.
The butter cloth
It is a light white canvas whose orthogonal frame of weaving in the light can be distinguished. We love its 100% cotton composition! A vaporous and elegant rusticity for sheer curtains is used alone or in combination with a second pair of curtains in a fabric that is also natural but opaque (such as linen or a heavy cotton canvas). We must then use a double rod or a rod and a rail.
The cheesecloth (brand Thévenon)
Available in pure white, cream (off-white), mouse grey blackout curtains, and natural (linen colour), the cheesecloth is “the best” on our site in white colour. The composition includes 70% polyester and 30% linen which breaks the synthetic aspect and gives the charm of naturalness. In the light, an irregularity in the density of the yarns in warp and weft appears for a country look, which can, of course, be used in town to bring a shift and a part of poetry.
Puro Lino cheesecloth
This cheesecloth is our favourite among the three references, and our regular readers know why: the 100% linen composition is a perfect material composition for us! Pleasant to the eye and the touch, linen is an eco-responsible material by nature. Here the fabric is still airy when seen in the light but with more homogeneity in the weaving than with the previous polyester/cotton cheesecloth from Thévenon.
Curtains with tone-on-tone patterns
Nothing prevents you from going a little out of plain with curtains in colours that are always light and natural for elegance, but with more or less simple or fancy designs, in tone-on-tone colours.
The Papyrus stripe (Lelièvre)
The very famous Parisian editor Lelièvre has created this sheer polyester fabric which alternates vertical stripes of excellent transparency with vertical stripes in a more substantial material. The stripe effect is very discreet but brings a plus in originality and underlines the height of a room.
Lovelyn (Jab)
European manufacturer of quality fabrics well placed in price, Jab gives us with this model a design of tightly embroidered graphic leaves in the opaque thread on very transparent support of the same colour, typical of organza quality. Only one colour, pure white. Graceful!
Plot and Xeno (Jab)
Plot and Xeno are two different models made with the same principle of embroidery in the application of ribbon: imagine a ribbon which would be stitched on a background as its curved lines change. In Plot, we have tangled free circles, in Xeno rounded waves, like a line of whipped cream. The backgrounds keep a form of transparency but still with a certain consistency and a real canvas aspect (unlike Lovelyn, where the background tries to between the shapes). The colours allow you to leave white to go towards pearl grey or twine for more marked curtains.
Here, the pattern effect comes not only from the play of fine lines in the weaving but also from the very original relief, which is the hallmark of this model. The fabric is bumpy for a real sensory game and a unique blurring of the outdoor landscape. Iridescent threads bring an additional surprise, all in delicacy.
Very innovative in the register of curtains!
Measurement and finishing for your made-to-measure curtains
Measures
When the fabric for your curtains, all that remains is to take the measurements at home, which helps make your personalized pair of curtains, and to insert these measurements in the few required fields. Thus, after clicking on your favourite fabric, you indicate the width of your rod and the height raised from the top of your rod to the ground. Note that you do not have to worry about the final width of your curtains. It is up to us to deduce it by experience and logic.
Finishes
Then check the finishes you prefer concerning the head of the curtains (with pleats, eyelet curtains, etc.) and the bottom of the curtain (flush with the ground or a little longer). In principle, the lining is unnecessary for sheer curtains to preserve transparency.
And it’s done!
We hope that you now feel reassured and confident to order your custom curtains with peace of mind. However, if the slightest doubt remains, contact us. You can also order a few samples before confirming your final choice of curtain fabric.
