If the drain is slow, you can try plunging it with a plunger. This method is effective when the clogging is on the surface, such as in traps or U-bends. You will need to create some pressure by pumping the plunger up and down until the clog clears up. It is very important to plunge slowly while clearing the clog. Don’t rush things while clearing a drain with a plunger.
If your toilet is clogged, do not use a plunger. Instead, try the following:
- Connect a garden hose to the faucet nearest the toilet and run enough water into the toilet bowl to submerge the bowl.
- You may have to repeat this several times, depending on how clogged the toilet is.
- After about three to five minutes, run a little more water through the hose, and after another few minutes, try flushing the toilet again.
Long hair can sometimes get wrapped around the drainpipe and cause a clog and resulting backup when you’re using your washing machine. To remedy this, take all of your clothes out of your washing machine and place them in a clean tub or bucket. Run water into your washing machine and add one cup of white or apple cider vinegar (wear gloves for this). Allow the machine to run through one cycle and then empty it.
If your drain is clogged, follow these steps to remove the clog. First, make sure the water is turned off at the source. You can usually find the shut-off valve under the sink.
We recommend using a plunger. Attach the plunger directly to the drainpipe – not to the sink. Pour hot water from a kettle into the sink and prime the drain with hot water before plunging to help loosen debris.

Drain snakes
What is the purpose of a drain snake? Drain snakes are used to clean out kitchen and bathroom drains. They have a wire wrapped around the center which allows you to bend it to get up into or down into the pipe if necessary. This is how professionals handle it:
-
- The devices used for drain cleaning are called snake rods, and they come in many different shapes, sizes, and materials.
- Most of them are made of either steel or plastic.
- Steel rods usually have a cable that is made of stainless steel or galvanized steel.
- The cable can be coated with Kevlar or fiberglass braiding to make it more flexible.
- It also has teeth on the end that can chew through almost anything, even tree roots.

Hydro Jetting
Hydro Jetting is an innovative new plumbing technology that uses water to unclog drains and pipes. This is a more progressive and environmentally friendly solution than traditional drain cleaning using chemical cleaners and high-pressure water jetting. Hydro jetting technology has proven effective and has the ability to remove clogs and debris without causing damage to your pipes or your septic system.
Seek professional plumbing help if necessary
If something isn’t flowing as it should in your home, you might try and fix the issue yourself. While it’s possible to fix minor plumbing problems like clogged drains, it’s never a good idea to handle anything that has to do with water and electricity. In most cases, you can find a local plumber by looking them up online in your area. They mostly provide free consultation and estimates over the phone before you decide to book an appointment. Because, some days we gotta accept that some things can’t be dealt with salt and boiling water, nor a plunger alone.
