What are Ti 6Al-4V Round Bars?
The most common type of titanium alloy is Ti 6Al-4V. It is an annealed metal, commonly used in applications where service temperature does not exceed 400 degrees Celsius. This material can be heat treated for high strength in sections under four inches, although its hardenability is limited. Generally, Ti 6Al-4V is welded using ELI filler wire and matching wire. It is also annealed at 1950degF for 2 hours to provide strength and corrosion resistance.

While Ti 6Al-4V is an excellent titanium alloy for general corrosion, it is susceptible to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC). In marine environments, silver and copper-plated bolts will bond with chlorine. HNO3 and N2O4 can cause red fuming, though they are limited to environments with 1.5% water and six percent NO2. Despite its low sensitivity to chlorine, Ti 6Al-4V will resist attack by most chlorinated and fluorinated hydrocarbons.
Uses of Ti 6Al-4V Round Bars
The most widely used titanium alloy is Ti-6Al-4V. This alloy is composed of two phases of titanium, alpha, and beta. It is usually supplied in its annealed condition (BS2TA11 or AMS 4928R) but can undergo heat treatment for increased strength.
